The Sea and Me
The lush and rolling hills of Litchfield County offer a staggering level of natural beauty and I love calling this landlocked patch of green my home. But some days I just want to smell the salt sea air and feel the sand between my toes. Many of my happiest memories are infused with both, having grown up on Long Island Sound in Rowayton, Connecticut.
No doubt that siren call of the sea had something to do with designing quite a few products that celebrate it! My husband’s library made it easy to get inspired as it includes many marine-themed prints and books (some over 250 years old). Using these exceptionally-detailed engravings as a starting point, we offer products with a level of detail that sets us apart. And since the original prints we use are often rare, our designs tend to be unique (made more so when infused with bold pops of color).
While bringing Salt & Apple Designs to life I was happy to immerse myself in a world brimming with shells, fish, 18th C. schooners and the dazzling colors of the sea. Despite being 75 miles inland, there were times I could have sworn I heard the caw of seagulls. Which is precisely what things are meant to do--evoke a time and place no matter where we happen to be.
